Great costumes! As you were telling about the teeth and the epoxy concoction I had this sudden thought about the teeth getting stuck on. Yikes! :-)

Two weeks ago I started having random nose bleeds. I suffered with nosebleeds as a child, but haven't had one since I was a teenager. I went to the ENT today and they did the cauterization procedure using the silver nitrate. He stated I have a blood vessel that has surfaced and burst probably do to a sinus infection. I have been home now for about 3hrs and the numbing stuff has long worn off and I'm in a lot of pain. Right now the pain around my gum and teeth area feel worse than the nose pain. I was advised to pack my nostril with Neosporin 3 times a day for a month and was given some antibiotics to take to make sure all the infection is gone. I'm hoping this pain doesn't last like this for too many days because I feel awful right now.

Mary did your black nostril go away? I had the cauterization done with the silver nitrate and had the same experience as Scott. After the 4th stick I felt the stinging in my nose and my eye started to water. I said to the doctor it hurts now and he did the 5th stick of silver nitrate and stopped. The doctor checked my nose and numb it a little more. I just sat on the chair for a good five minutes after the procedure and got up to head out of the doctor's office. The numbness began to wear off and the pain began. I bought Tylenol, the nasal saline spray and saline gel. I hope to heal soon and that the nosebleeds are gone for good.

That was a great report. The whole nerve assist thing, that was hilarious. I didn't realize what it was until the lady started working on me. There I was with my hamstrings in pain and I've having my energy fixed ... what a joke. Glad you didn't get caught by the train. We had a few people from our Austin group get caught once and one person by 2 trains!

I feel ya. I am more sore today from yesterdays Portland than I ever have been from any of my marathons or even ultras. I agree with you about the negative splits. I think if you finish with a lot (some) left in you, then you are far less sore. This is my strategy most of the time. It makes the long races more enjoyable for me but sometimes you have to go for it.

My 3:38 PR was done on March 15th 2009. It has been a big transformation for me. In ten months my marathon PR's have been 4:14, 4:06, 3:58, 3:33. Thanks a lot for the encouragement. I really appreciated your comment back.

Ahhhhhh.. Your race sounds very very familiar. You put it into words much better than I could have in my post. I finished in 3:33 beating my former PR of 3:58. I loved reading your recount of the race as it seemed just like mine. You must have been one of the 250 people that passed me up in the last mile or two. HAHAHAHAHA Great job.

Excellent! I'm so glad it went so well for you Scott!

I was pretty sad driving with in a mile of the marathon start this morning knowing I wasn't running it this time around, but, I had a nice afternoon run when the sun came out today and it almost healed my mental wounds. ;-)

Oh, and I echo your rant on the scientologists in the finishing tent. I took a double take look when I saw that last year and felt the same as you. I wanted to yell at all the people who got on the table s,"Are you nuts?!"

Congratulations on an excellent race, you should be proud of the that one!
